Because of its outstanding faculty, the University of Texas Medical Branch is one of the top 50 US medical schools in federal research funding and has many individual federal and private postdoctoral fellowships and institutional training grants.
Postdoctoral fellows have access to three major sources of funding during their postdoc training years. They are:
- National Institutes of Health (NIH) - the most common is the National Research Service Award (NRSA), but you will find many others at the NIH Research Training & Research Career Development website
- National Science Foundation (NSF)
- Department of Defense
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
- Jeane B. Kempner Postdoctoral Scholar Award
- McLaughlin Fellowships
