  • RE: Financial Need Determination for Scholarship Eligibility (not required for all scholarships)

If you are a domestic student and did not apply for financial aid through the Enrollment Services Office; or, if you are a foreign student, you will need to follow the steps outlined below in order to have your financial need calculated.

If you completed the more extensive financial aid application process through the Enrollment Services Office, you do not need to do this. You will, however, have to advise Enrollment Services that you need a signed Financial Need Document to submit with your scholarship application. We have implemented these processes to ensure the same formulas are used to determine all students’ financial need.

Before you begin, locate a copy of your 2003 Federal income tax return (if filed), as it contains information you will need in order to complete this form.

  1. Go to http://www.finaid.org/calculators/finaidestimate.phtml to complete the streamlined Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculator. Select “Detailed Output”, Federal Methodology”, and “2004-05” on the top of the page.
  2. Provide only student information. Parent information is not required (and is not used) as you are considered independent for Federal student aid purposes.
  3. Do not complete the “Estimated School Costs” section of the form, as those figures are already on the Financial Need Document used by Enrollment Services to determine your financial need.
  4. Click “Calculate” on the bottom of the page, once all requested data has been entered.
  5. Print the first two pages of the results, and print your name and PID on the top of each one. Finally, sign and date the second page on the line just above the “Estimated School Costs” section, and submit both pages to Enrollment Services. They are in Room 1.206 of Old Red.
  6. Enrollment Services will use this information to produce the Financial Need Document needed to award scholarships that have a financial need requirement. After an Enrollment Services Specialist signs the document, it will be give to you to attach to your scholarship application.

Please ensure you complete this process early enough to meet the application deadline date of Friday, February 20, 2005 If you have questions or need assistance, please contact Enrollment Services at 409-772-1215.
