Funding Available

Because of its outstanding faculty, the University of Texas Medical Branch is one of the top 50 US medical schools in federal research funding and has many individual federal and private postdoctoral fellowships and institutional training grants.
Postdoctoral fellows have access to three major sources of funding during their postdoc training years. They are:

Federal agencies with awards specific for postdoctoral fellows:

• National Institutes of Health (NIH): the most common is the National Research Service Award (NRSA), but you will find many others at the NIH Research Training & Research Career Development website;
• National Science Foundation (NSF)
• Department of Defense
• Department of Energy
• Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Non-governmental organizations that offer awards specific for postdoctoral fellows.
Examples include the American Cancer Society (ACS), National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the American Heart Association. Also check out societies or associations affiliated with your research topic.
