Arthur V. Simmang Academic Scholarships
– This scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in a
degree-seeking GSBS program with excellent academic achievement
and demonstrated financial need. This award is $5,000.
Zelda Zinn Casper
Scholarship
- A partial stipend plus a travel award is available to an
outstanding student showing superior accomplishments and promise
for achieving excellent dissertation research. The student must
be a U.S. citizen and may receive this scholarship only once.
The award is $20,000 (stipend) plus a $1000 travel award.
James E. Beall II
Memorial Scholarship
– This scholarship is available for a student who is enrolled as
a regular, full-time Ph.D. degree-seeking student based on
academic qualifications including GRE scores, TOEFL scores
(where required), grade point average, advanced degrees,
research experience, and motivation and dedication to a career
in biomedical research. The award is $1,000.
Kay and Cary W. Cooper,
Ph.D.
Scholarship
– Open to all students enrolled in the GSBS, awarded to an
outstanding student and citizen of UTMB. This award is $1000.
Curtis W. Lambert
Scholarship
– This scholarship recognizes a regularly enrolled 2nd year and
above graduate student who has succeeded academically (overall
GPA of at least 3.0) and who is in financial need. The award is
$1,000.
GSBS Associates
Scholarships
– The scholarship is to recruit outstanding Ph.D. candidates to
UTMB or recognize students of exceptional merit early in their
career (usually 1st or 2nd year). Two awards of $1,000 each.
Edith and Robert Zinn
Presidential Scholarship
– Open to all students enrolled in the GSBS demonstrating the
highest standing in all aspects of graduate education,
academics, research and citizenship. This award is $2,000.
Dennis Bowman Memorial
Scholarship
– Open to all students enrolled in the GSBS, awarded to an
outstanding student and citizen of UTMB. This award is $1,000.
Betty Williams, Ph.D.
Tuition Scholarship
– This scholarship recognizes an outstanding bench scientist
with special consideration for disadvantaged students. The award
is $1,000.
Robert Bennett Tuition
Scholarship
– This scholarship recognizes an outstanding student enrolled in
the GSBS. The award is $1,000.
Bohdan Nechay Tuition
Scholarship
– This scholarship recognizes an outstanding student enrolled in
the GSBS. The award is $1,000.
Stephen C. Silverthorne
Memorial Scholarship
– This award is presented to a student on the basis of
perseverance and excellence in any field of research. The award
is a plaque and check for $500.
Ann and John Hamilton
Endowed Scholarship
– This award is presented to recognize demonstrated academic
excellence. This award is $1000.
University Federal
Credit Union Scholarship
– This scholarship, sponsored by the UFCU, honors excellence in
academics and citizenship for outstanding students in the GSBS.
The award is $1000.
U.T.M.B.
Retirees Scholarship Award
- This award recognizes an outstanding graduate student. This
award is $1,000.
The Ralph and Mary John Spence Centennial Scholarship
- is awarded to a UTMB student each year on a rotation basis of
each school. It is Graduate School's turn this year to identify
2 nominees and submit them to Dr.Callender with back-up data
(for example CV, letter of recommendation). The President shall
make his decision and notify Deans of his selection. The
criteria for selection are "demonstrated superior academic
performance; exhibited high personal and professional ethics and
financial need". The award is $1400.

- This scholarship is presented to a student based on merit and
high academic standards. This
award is $1,000.
George and Ann Pappas Award -
Open to all students enrolled in
the GSBS, awarded to an outstanding student and citizen of UTMB.
