Intramural Fellowships

  • Moderator – Lynn Soong, MD, PhD, professor, Microbiology & Immunology, PI on T32, Infectious Diseases and Inflammatory Disorders Training Program
  • Speaker – Kenneth Ottenbacher, PhD, PI, Interdisciplinary Predoctoral Rehabilitation Research Training (T32) and Advance Rehabilitation and Research Training, which supports postdocs, and co-director, Research Education, Training and Career Development resource of the Institute for Translational Sciences. He will discuss the application process for the two types of grants, what are important elements of the application, what the committee looks for, how the application can be used/modified for external grant applications
  • Speaker – Ashok Chopra, PhD, chair, McLaughlin Endowment committee – discuss application process for McLaughlin Fellowships, what the committee looks for, what are important elements of the application, what fellowships are awarded, how application can be used/modified for external grant applications
  • Speaker – Dr. Soong also will discuss K awards for postdocs in transition to faculty positions.

  • Speaker - Catherine Rondelli, doctoral student, Neuroscience & Cell Biology, successful F31 applicant – together they will discuss the structure of the application and the process and resources for developing it:
    • Facilities and equipment;
    • letters;
    • respective contributions and sponsor & institution;
    • goals and training activities planned.
  • Speaker - Mardelle Susman, instructor, Microbiology & Immunology – will analyze an application to look at grantsmanship, including language, appearance, avoiding repetition, offering hands on suggestions for what makes an application successful.
